Wireless
Security
It seems these days that everyone has a laptop (though I
don’t), and 99% of the people who do take it on the road and work in a
wide variety of settings. One also can have wireless desktop PCs, of course. In
either case, “wireless” can mean security problems. So we’re going to
discuss numerous ways to protect your data in a wide variety of situations. I
think it’s just easier to address all the possibilities and vendors in one
article.
One leading group of products comes from AirDefense.
Their AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 is a
wireless intrusion prevention system that monitors the airwaves 24/7 and
automatically detects and responds to wireless threats and unauthorized devices
on the wireless network. AirDefense
BlueWatch monitors and secures Bluetooth networks for corporations and
detects insecure Bluetooth devices and connections. AirDefense
Mobile, which is complementary to AirDefense
Enterprise, allows administrators to perform wireless assessments, security
audits, and locate and manage rogues. AirDefense
Personal is a client-side agent that protects the mobile user traveling
beyond the protected enterprise perimeter.
Another company that protects your network is NetMotion
Wireless. Their Mobility XE product is a Mobility server behind your firewall or in
the DMZ and lightweight client software on each mobile device. It maintains
continuous, secure connectivity in mobile computing situations. Altiris
provides Altiris 6 Security Management
Suite. This is the only product suite that combines remediation tools with
an automated assessment of anti-virus software, security patches, industry-known
vulnerabilities, personal firewall, system security configuration settings, and
unauthorized hardware and software vulnerabilities, thereby reducing exposure to
security threats while eliminating vulnerability root causes.
Check Point Software
Technologies Ltd. is another company that provides top-rate firewall
protection to secure your perimeter, Internal and Web activity. They state,
“We are the recognized worldwide leader of Internet security. That’s why we
secure 100% of the Fortune 100.” That’s a rather awesome statement, and they
can back it up. Incat provides a complete
suite of Networking/Security, which includes network infrastructure, firewall,
ANX integration and project management, intrusion detection, network sensors,
network analysis and more. They also have a host of IT, Engineering,
Professional and Educational services.
So if you have an office environment or a networked system
and want absolute protection, check out any of the above vendors. You won’t go
wrong.
